This page is for suggestions for future blog releases.

Before you submit a request, please use the ‘search’ function to see if it has already been released.

By submitting any titles, it does not imply that it will be released in the near future as there is l;ways the possibility that i do not have it. Conversely, if i do have it, it does not mean it will be released immediately.

But, for those titles i do not have, it will give me an idea of what to look out for.

    Here’s an odd one…

Greenboard South – The Sounds Of Southern Railway Steam Engines In Motion

Looks interesting. Would definitely want to hear it at least once.

On eBay right now and it’s reasonably priced…

  2. telestory99 August 25, 2017 at 05:33 #

Hi all. does anyone know where the links for the surround sound Earth Wind & Fire links went?

  3. jaypfunk June 18, 2017 at 14:25 #

I know you are slowing down but how about…

Mac Davis- All the Love in the World

If you don’t have it, I have the opportunity to pick up a clean copy of the QUAD LP for $1.00 at a local record store. Let me know if you want me to get it and ship it off to you.

Not certain if Magnetic South was transferred yet or not. I learned of this and it piqued my curiosity.

    • rockysquirrel April 2, 2017 at 13:14 #

      That is interesting, thanks.

Well, I acquired a copy of Lose Salute on Q8, and I will beg the Captain to transfer it. Finding the Q8 copy of Magnetic South has proven elusive so far.

By the way, Mike Nesmith released 3 CDs with Dolby Surround – Tropical Campfires, The Garden, and Live at the Britt Festival. I am not sure of the proper way to play Dolby surround CDs, though.

      • oxforddickie April 4, 2017 at 13:55 #

I’m playing ‘Live at the Brit Festival’ as i type this (Joanne at this exact moment) and i have to say it’s a great album, the Dulby Surround adds a little atmosphere to the proceedings, plus it’s where most of the crowd live. It does bug me that we’ll probably never get to hear it in proper surround but i guess we should be thankful we have what we have, Michael’s material doesn’t get the attention it deserves.

    • Owen Smith April 2, 2017 at 15:13 #

You play Dolby Surround CDs through a Dolby Surround decoder. I did some experiments on this about two and a half years ago, playing DS CD tracks through Dolby Surround on my amp (which is what they’re meant to be decoded with, not Pro Logic), then through Dolby Pro Logic II Music (which sounds better but isn’t “correct”), and finally OD’s short lived DS/IV process. OD’s process sounded so much better than my amps’ decoders it was a revelation. Then OD got into SQ/III and Phoenix inspired by some of the DS/IV work and the Dolby Surround processes didn’t progress or get used much. It’s a shame in way, but on the other hand there’s so much more stuff in SQ and Dolby Surround is a bit of a sideline for us.

Michael Nesmith & The First National Band – Loose Salute. This features a longer version of “Silver Moon”.

    • oxforddickie March 24, 2017 at 07:29 #

Michaels’s few quad releases are very rare, which is shown by the lack of them actually for sale. It’s a real shame, he deserves far better recognision that he gets. I do wonder why his releases were only released on Q8 and didn’t get the equivelant CD-4 release.

    • rockysquirrel April 2, 2017 at 01:13 #

I am curious as to why you requested Loose Salute and not Magnetic South, the latter of which has the hit Joanne. Has a quad version of Magnetic South already been transferred?

  6. RTM January 18, 2017 at 05:34 #

I cast a vote for Maynard Ferguson’s Conquistador album. There are solo licks on the Quad version that aren’t available in any other format.

    • jaypfunk January 18, 2017 at 14:52 #

      I 2nd this. A very cool record.

  7. Ade Gregg December 8, 2016 at 09:55 #

Posted this over at the other side

Well for me a few Quad releases im looking for
The Carmen Cavallaro- The 3B’s – Beatles Bacharach & Bach, Ive got the LP (Stereo) But it was released as a Q8

Any Ronnie Aldrich, Yeah I know, I kinda like the MOTR stuff that came out on Quad

Any more Enoch Light, I have many many Quad LP’s But have yet to hear many in ‘Real’ Quad, well, like what you do!

    • oxforddickie December 8, 2016 at 11:48 #

Those albums don’t ring any bells with me, but maybe Captain Beyond would know better. And of course if there is to be any Ronnie Aldrich to be released it will be by The Captian.

I’ve quite a bit of Enoch Light, i do look at them but tend to pass them by, perhaps i’ll dig one out soon.

    • oxforddickie December 8, 2016 at 11:54 #

Was wondering how you listen to the quad albums you have, is it via 1970’s equipment?

    • Captain Beyond January 29, 2017 at 19:52 #

Please pardon my delayed reply. The 3B’s… are you referring to these two Capitol albums perhaps? ‘Great Songs of The Beatles’ (QL-6735 (SQ), Q8L-6735 (Q8) or ‘Great Songs of Bacharach & David’ (QL-6734 (SQ), Q8L-6734 (Q8). I have those two on Q8 and could prepare a release if no problems are found on the tapes.

A have two Q8’s by Ronnie Aldrich that could see release again if there are no problems with the tape. ‘Come To Where The Love Is’ (LON L 77190) and a sealed copy of ‘Top Of The World’ (LON L 77203). Do you have a preference?

Lastly Enoch Light. I have many titles as there was a lot of releases from Enoch. I tend to pass them over for other titles .Did not know there would be any interest for releasing but I could. Is there a particular title you would like to hear?

  8. jaypfunk December 7, 2016 at 16:11 #

    Hearts. Warner Bros. BS4-2852 (CD4)
    Holiday. Warner Bros. WS4-2808 (CD4)

    • oxforddickie December 7, 2016 at 17:05 #

Hearts has been officially released so won’t appear here i’m afraid.

      • birdycat19 December 7, 2016 at 17:12 #

HOLIDAY was also released in quad but the mix is quite underwhelming in comparison to HEARTS.

        • oxforddickie December 7, 2016 at 17:16 #

I think most of the America albums of that time were put out in quad, they were quite popular at the time.

          • birdycat19 December 7, 2016 at 17:24 #

To my knowledge HEARTS and HOLIDAY were the only albums that saw quad releases back in the day. HOMECOMING was mixed to 5.1 and released on DVD-A in 2002 or whatever. That mix was added to the more recent Audio Fidelity SACD of HOMECOMING.

  9. bayards November 26, 2016 at 04:57 #

    btw…air date was possibly 24 March 1978.

    • oxforddickie November 27, 2016 at 00:18 #

This was broadcast on either New Years ’77 or New Years day ’78, if memory serves me correctly. It was in eitherMatrix H or HJ. I do have a copy of it, and did test it to see which it was broadcast in, but have forgotten!

Unfortuntely the quality of the copy i have is not stable enough to guarentee a reasonable decode, both H/HJ are the most complex of all of the matrix systems and require a good phase stable source for a reasonable decode to be created.

So, i guess this is a good chance to put out feelers for a good quality source for this, or any other, H/HJ broadcasts, by either BBC or one of the European broadcasters.

    • Owen Smith November 27, 2016 at 11:25 #

Despite recent discussion on Queen collector web sites I’m still getting nowhere with the Matrix H Queen BBC session that we know was broadcast.

  10. bayards November 26, 2016 at 04:43 #

Just read that a BBC quad broadcast in 1977 called “Cliff Richard in concert” was made. Do you have this gem OD?

A number of those are new to me and there’s a couple of them that were just on 8 track but thanks for the request, it’s good to have something new to try and hunt down.

  13. David Elinoff July 8, 2016 at 05:11 #

How about Gong? There’s rumor that half of “Shamal” and perhaps half of “You” are encoded.

    • oxforddickie July 19, 2016 at 08:26 #

What is the basis of your request as i’ve never heard of any possibility of any Gong albums being encoded.

      • daveede July 19, 2016 at 18:43 #

There’s a couple of threads on QQ about it. Like I said, rumors…

        • oxforddickie July 19, 2016 at 21:35 #

Well that explains it, insantly ignored………..

          • daveede July 19, 2016 at 21:52 #

FWIW, one of the posters, ‘Rcrofty’ , says he was a tape-op at the studio, and remembers that the Gong “You” sessions were mixed in quad.

Jimmy Castor Bunch ‎– Dimension III

  15. Glen A. Gill May 9, 2016 at 16:00 #

Any interest in the Ravel collection; Stanislaw Skrowaczewski/Minnesota Orchestra. Done in QS by Vox. The CDs may still have the matrix intact. There was a brief release of a few of them on a Mo-Fi SACD in 4-channel. I believe they are now OOP.

The collection was lauded by critics and audiophiles at the time. I know you have a few with Jean Martinon. So, maybe they ones that are not on that release.

    • Owen Smith May 9, 2016 at 20:30 #

If there are SACDs the best route would be for the SACD to DVD-A site to try to track them down. I’ve emailed sacdtodvda.

      • sacdtodvda May 9, 2016 at 22:37 #

Indeed, two conversions of recordings of Skrowaczewski with the Minnesota Orchestra performing Ravel appear on the SACD-to-DVDA blog along with others by Slatkin and Susskind.

      • Owen Smith May 10, 2016 at 01:05 #

And I’m seeding them if anyone wants to download.

      Wow! Some beautiful obscure requests

      • oxforddickie August 9, 2016 at 08:36 #

I thought i’d reiterate how the requests are fulfilled:

        a) The number of requests for a particular title.
        b) If i haven’t already acquired the title, then its availability and cost are dependant on its purchase.

  17. daveede March 20, 2016 at 04:27 #

Yikes, that is a pretty penny, or two!

    Joni Mitchell Court & Spark.
    ZZ Top Tres Hombres

    • sacdtodvda April 3, 2016 at 11:25 #

Tres Hombres was done by Romanotrax from a quad reel, and very nice it is, too.

  19. jaypfunk March 18, 2016 at 14:37 #

    Donald Byrd – Street Lady

This was available in QUAD on LP and 8-Track.

  20. T Bradley February 26, 2016 at 23:47 #

It’s probably mainly a New Orleans thing but I’m searching for the RCA Q8 cartridge PQ8-1011 which is titled “The Best of Al Hirt” that I would really like to have on a DVD-A/V combo disc.
As a pre-teen in the days of quad I wasn’t old enough to own such things and my parents had no interest although some friends’ older siblings and parents did so I got some exposure to it in limited quantity, and I heard Al Hirt’s music on the local AM Top 40 radio station for several years before the late 70’s “disco” music genre took over the airwaves here and not only would I really like to hear those familiar Al Hirt songs again, I can only imagine what they’d be like in quad…

  21. Glen February 13, 2016 at 06:37 #

I was scanning the comments for “Earthquake”. The discussion turned to a Japanese CD-4 pressing of “Jaws”. Is this something you are planning?

    • oxforddickie February 13, 2016 at 14:58 #

That was some time ago, afraid the chances of it ever appearing is slim.

    • Owen Smith February 13, 2016 at 17:30 #

There is a Romanotrax transfer of Jaws CD-4 Japanese pressing out there somewhere, I have it from years ago. It’s a bit poignant because he transferred Disclord’s copy at his request.

I do sometimes wonder what happened to Disclord’s extensive collection of laserdiscs, quad stuff etc.

  22. Glen A. Gill February 7, 2016 at 01:36 #

“Great Songs of Bacharach & David” & “Songs of the Seventies”. Both of these are Capitol SQ pressings and are similar to the Realistic San Fernando Brass album you did. I believe these were to demonstrate the new Quad systems they were trying to sell.

Peter Matz “Quadraphonic Spectacular” on Columbia. CQ 31247

Peter Nero “Summer of ’42” on Columbia. CQ 31105

“Andre Kostelanetz plays Michel LeGrand’s Greatest Hits” on Columbia. CQ 32580. NOTE: This was coupled with another Kostenanetz album by Vocalion but in its stereo version. Although, if you hear his remastering, it sounds like the Quad matrix is still present.

“Chacksfield plays Bacharach” and “Chacksfield plays Simon & Garfunkel and Jim Webb” These were Decca/London Phase 4 recordings. The Quad versions were on Q4 and Q8.

    • oxforddickie February 7, 2016 at 10:09 #

I have the Capitol albums and they’ll be released at some time, as will the Peter Nero album. TI don’t have the other vinyl albums at this time, but should copies become available then they’ll be added to the list, which still grows by the day.

The Decca/London releases would fall under Captain Beyonds remit. Whether he has, or has access to, these releases i’m not sure, but if he has then i’m sure he will have taken note of your request.

      • Glen February 13, 2016 at 13:42 #

Regarding Captain Beyond, actually, sometime back, before dealing with some health issues, I did make contact with him about converting some Q4s and Q8s. But things got away from myself and lost contact. So, if he is still interested, and he is monitoring this blog, OD has my permission to give him my e-mail address and hopefully, this time, I can get these done, and maybe others might be interested in them.

        • oxforddickie February 13, 2016 at 14:59 #

The Captain does indeed keep a weather eye on comments

        • Captain Beyond February 18, 2016 at 18:09 #

Hello Glen. Yes dealing with health issues trumps anything quad without question. I do recall our conversation from before concerning some Q4 titles. I’m still sailing about and you can contact me at your convenience. I do not have your contact info either. OD could you please make our email address(s) available to each other privately.

    • Captain Beyond February 18, 2016 at 18:04 #

Sorry to say the Captain does not have any of the (3) Decca/London Phase 4 titles you requested in any format. It seems this label must have produced limited quantities upon original release. They do not show up often on paybay and always demand a premium. Will keep a look out from the crows nest for future acquisition.

  23. Toto January 6, 2016 at 15:23 #

    Jose Feliciano “Fireworks”

    • Captain Beyond February 17, 2016 at 00:35 #

Good suggestion Toto. Jose covers five Lennon/McCartney tunes plus a Jagger/Richard song on ‘Fireworks’. However I think the standout on this cartridge is the old Dale Hawkins tune ‘Susie-Q’. Now placing ‘Fireworks’ (PQ8-1595) on the ‘To Do’ stack. Probably should consider ‘Feliciano!’ (PQ8-1377) as well.

  24. gleeksmirt7 January 4, 2016 at 06:03 #

Hey Captain! As a reminder…how about some Grand Funk? Happy New Year. 🙂

    • Captain Beyond February 17, 2016 at 00:12 #

Please excuse my overdue response and thanks for the reminder. The Captain has both ‘We’re An American Band’ (Q8W-11207) and ‘Shinin’ On’ (Q8W-11278). Both of course on Capitol Q8. Do you have a preference ?

      • gleeksmirt7 February 17, 2016 at 03:52 #

Which ever in your opinion has the most impressive quad mix. (I hope you’ll eventually post both. ) Thanks for getting back to me..i sure appreciate it!

      • oxforddickie February 17, 2016 at 09:45 #

Do we get the 3D cover and glasses as well? LOL

        • Captain Beyond February 18, 2016 at 18:00 #

Yes you will get the 3-D cover. However you will have to provide your own Anaglyph (red / blue) 3-D glasses.

  25. Owen Smith December 30, 2015 at 00:31 #

I’m guessing there was no Motorhead in quad, but I just thought I’d ask given Lemmy’s death has been all over the UK news. I saw a TV interview with him recently, the most interesting parts were about Hawkwind. Having said that, is there any Hawkwind in quad? That seems more the kind of music that would benefit from quad.

    • oxforddickie December 30, 2015 at 06:16 #

Afraid not, there was nothing done back then, but there was a recent 5.1 remix of Hawkwind’s ‘Warrior On Tghe Edge Of Time’

    • Owen Smith December 30, 2015 at 11:51 #

Amazingly, despite the copious information generally about what is on the discs, that amazon listing and the pictures of the back cover fail to say whether the 5.1 is just lossy DVD-V or has a DVD-A section. I can’t even tell if the 5.1 DVD-V is DD or DTS. Hopeless.

      • oxforddickie December 30, 2015 at 12:07 #

Ah, this i do know, it’s MLP/DTS/DD. There is a slight drawback to this set as two of the tracks had to be ‘upmixed’ as the multi’s were not available.
This sort of information should be clearly stated, but it’s tucked away in the booklet! Thee tracks are ‘Spiral Galaxy 28948’ & ‘Kings Of Speed’

  26. jaypfunk December 6, 2015 at 15:05 #

Just a heads up… there are 2 LPs and 1 8-Track of JAMES GANG Miami on eBay right now.
