…Continuing the test releases with: SQ

27 May

SQd2

As mentioned in the previous release, the SQd decoding process had a minor upgrade, but the improvements in correcting the rear right issue although small, proved significant. To this end i’m releasing the following six albums:

Mike Oldfield – Tubular Bells (QV2001)

Before the Quadraphonic remix box-set “Boxed”, which contained the quad version of Tubular Bells that most are familiar with nowadays, Virgin released a stand-alone Quad version that was an up-mix from the standard stereo mix, although there was an additional added at the end of side two, a short recording of a model plane being flown in the studio. This is the only true quadraphonic track on the album. It is what it is.

Mike Oldfield – Exposed

And from Mr Oldfield’s first quad album to his last. Originally released on a two LP’s, this release was only ever released in Quad, no stereo version exists. Sourced from the HDCD release, it was decoded to 20-bit then decoded to four channel.

Lee Michaels – Nice Day For Something

An album i don’t remember ever seeing this made available anywhere

San Fernando Brass – The New Brass Sound Of The Hits

The Taj-Mahal Travelers – July 15,1972

Peter Nero – Summer Of ’42

The vinyl transfer used for this decode/release was kindly supplied by “Romanotrax”

Popol Vuh – Aguirre

Released as proof that many of Popol Vuh’s album were released in quad

Very grateful for your efforts OD, thank you! Exposed is one of my all time favorites. This sounds fabulous. 🙂

Thanks for these OD – particularly the Popul Vuh. Also had the QV2001 release back then – hence the login name …

Hello Richard, longtime I have NEVER seen Lee Michaels in quad, and liked him at the time. By the way, we have a cavernous outdoor clamshell concert facility, The Hollywood Bowl here, and Lee was the only one I have ever seen\heard who managed to sonically SHAKE the entire bowl with his organ. Unbelievable 130 db or better (worse). Hope your neck is all better, and GIVE UP QS improvement, you got it. The Paramor? CD is 4 channel DISCRETE quad. You have solved the riddle. And the Lee Michaels SQ has XLNT sound and quad. Raise your arms in triumph and declare yourself victor.

I couldn’t remember ever seeing the Lee Michael’s album ever being done so that’s another ticked off the list.

Thanks for the feedback, am glad you found the decodes ok 😄

Yeah, the good old days. They’ll never let 130 db escape through the sound system these days. Can’t upset the neighbors. 🙂

Thank you OD for these upgraded decodes. Your efforts are very much appreciated.

Thank you so much! Looking forward to hearing these. Although, the downloads seem to be stalled on Tubular Bells. Everyone is sitting at 38%.

    YMMD!!! Thank You so much!!

Aguirre was previously released as DS190f, and if you search the blog for Popol you will see you have previously released two more of their albums. Plenty of proof already that they released quad.

I had made a comment on Rhino’s site regarding a new box set they were releasing devoted to Popol and the complete lack of the quad versions of the albums as a “come and buy” incentive.

I then got someone who said he’d never heard about any of Popols albums being released in quad, to which I replied there were 6 or 7, and that they were single inventory releases. I gave him the blogs address, and said to keep an eye out for a few new releases, one of which I planned to be Aquirre, for him.

Of course, whether he bothered to look at the blog I’ll never know.

Good to see you again DD…and thanks. Ears to front (and back)…

Thank you OD for these (and previous the batch) of releases. I’m so pleased you’ve not thrown in the towel just yet…

I will add them to the huge pile of to-be-auditioned titles – awaiting the day I have 4 (and 5.1) channels available for listening. Yes, the protracted (and oft derailed) rebuild of the Listening Room appears to be “just over the horizon”.>>

You’re invited to the Grande Reopening Party, to cut the ribbon 🙂 I’ll keep you posted.

    • oxforddickie May 27, 2019 at 18:10 #

That horizon must be some distance from you, even now. Good luck 👍

You are a generous guy. Thanks so much. I love these.
