Chicago – The Quadio Box-Set

31 Jan

Containing all nine of Chicago’s Quadraphonic albums on nine Blu-Ray discs, this box-set is the answer to any Chicago fans dream, that is excluding my release of Chicago IV of course lol.

The price varies greatly for this set, so it’s probably a good idea to shop around, it may be possible to get a copy cheaper from abroad.

I like the 2010 Rhino DVD ‘quadradisc’ release of the CTA album much better. This one sounds murky in comparison.

I have this and love it. Rhino made getting the replacement discs easy and pain free!

For those who aren’t aware, the initial pressing (and there may only be the one pressing) of this set has two discs that contain errors in the STEREO mix.

On the STEREO mix of the ‘Chicago’ album (aka ‘Chicago II’) the tracks that would have made up Side 2 of the vinyl LP are in MONO. The corresponding two single edits of these tracks on the STEREO mix of the ‘Greatest Hits’ album are also in MONO.

If your set has this issue you simply need to email Dr Rhino and he will send out replacement discs.

If you are buying any of these discs individually through the second hand market you should check the catalogue number to ensure you are not buying a flawed disc.

For the ‘Chicago’ album, the original (flawed) disc is catalogue number is: 603497880669-2 (white font) and the new (fixed) disc is: BA2-553946-2 (black font)

For the ‘Greatest Hits’ album, the original (flawed) disc is: 603497880669-8 (black font)
and the new (fixed) disc is: BA2-553946-8 (black font)

For avoidance of doubt these faults are only in the STEREO mixes on those two discs. There is no issue with any of the QUAD mixes.

Got it as well. I had no problem paying the ask when it was still new in the marketplace. The High End audio magazines really show their ignorance when they reviewed this release. They nitpicked a lot that was a conscious decision by Guercio and is (to my best ability to tell) baked into the original multitrack work parts. (like the delay in “Critic’s Choice” for example.) Absolutely worth it….
