Well this is rather good all round. The music is great, one of those albums that makes me wish I was at the gig. And the UHJ is as good as I remember, the speakers all disappear as point sources (especially the rears) and there is just a lovely soundfield in the room. At times this sounds bigger than the room itself, I could swear it extends through the walls. Sometimes I think a speaker is intruding, only to open my eyes (I listen with my eyes shut usually) and find I’m looking at empty space not where a speaker is. Fantastic.

It”s a shame the group didn’t do morw of their albums in UHJ, but again the BBC did their ‘test transmissions’ for a short period of time then dumped it just as they did with the quad broadcasts, so it’s no surprise the record companies did like wise.

Is anyone still releasing stuff in UHJ? Or ambisonics in general? It works so well, it should have been more successful.

I believe it’s only Nimbus left flying the flag. The lack of available decoders doesn’t give the record labels any enthusiasm to do anything so unless some one major, like Aunty Beeb (some chance), it’ll not happen.

Plus there would need tobe a move away from the likes of mp3, ect and a move towards people realising that music is at it’s best when heard lossless, and i can’t see that happeing ant day soon.

So is this a new ambisonic decode process? Or is it just a new name? It’s been at least two years since you last did an ambisonic release, I’m very pleased to see it’s return.

It’s the same as before, don’t think it can be improved as such. Couldn’t remember what i called it and couldn’t be bothered to look up the old releases and U2Q just popped into my head.

Well I’m glad to see some UHJ releases again anyway, some of the previous ones worked really well for me.

This page shows the process names, as does search the blog for “UHJ”:

Mind you the above page shows Sphinx for QS so it’s a bit out of date.
