Jethro Tull – Aqualung (reissue)

5 Apr

Just a heads up for those that may be unaware that Jethro Tull’s quad mix is being reissued this month, but this time it’s in the same book format (DVD-V) as the others, and at a much more reasonable price: Amazon

And don’t forget the other released quad mix (War Child) and the two sets containing previously un-released quad mixes (Minstrel In The Gallery & Too Old To Rock ‘N’ Roll: Too Young To Die)

Get them while you can, i believe once the record company’s stock runs out, they won’t be re-pressed.

Bloomin’ marvellous they all are too.
Steven Wilson does an excellent job of all the 5.1 remixes he does.
He’s also done several titles by other bands: Yes, XTC, Gentle Giant and some by ELP

Thanks for the heads up OD! I became very impressed with these “Book” style 4 disc releases upon purchasing Thick As A Brick. I then went on to get the other 4 that have been released so far, plus Benefit. They’re excellent value for the money and I enjoy all the liner notes. I believe Steven Wilson is now working on Songs From The Wood and Stand Up. He has a dedicated Facebook page just for his remix projects. I wish he would also remix in surround more Gentle Giant albums too! 🙂

The problem with Gentle Giant is they don’t have any more multi-track masters
Possibly one more to come if they can secure the rights to the masters.
Kerry, Derek and Ray met up in London in December, maybe that’s why they met?

We can only hope! Their music in surround is perfectly suited for this medium imho.

I already have the big anniversary set – and the Blu-ray is a real winner, even with the one or two flaws that it contains. BUT I ordered the new DVD set anyway – as I love these Jethro Tull Book Box Sets. They really are labors of love – and rather special in my estimation. I wish they’d do Stand Up in this way…

Is it DVD-A/V? I thought the other releases were DVD-V only.

    • oxforddickie April 6, 2016 at 00:18 #

it is DVD-V only, DTS and Dulby Digital

I have no problem with this. DTS is always fine by me. 🙂

I’ve just lost interest completely. £21.99 when all I want is the quad, and the best option provided is DTS? No thanks.

Why did you say DVD-A/V in the original post OD?

        • oxforddickie April 6, 2016 at 09:48 #

Soorry, a major boo-boo on my part. Doing two together obviously confused my already befuddled brain. Will correct it.

I hope nobody as ordered it hoping it will have a lossless stream.

I will say one thing, the DTS stream is very good, i can’t detect any issues.

If it’s like the previous book-style editions the stereo transfers will be lossless while the surround ones will be DTS and DD.

£21.99 reasonable? When all I want is the quad mix? OK it’s better price wise than Journey To The Centre Of The Earth but it’s still expensive for one album. The rest of tbe pack is just padding.

That’s very true, i think it’s fair to say the extra CD’s might get one listen then they’ll never be taken out of the package again. But the record companies are trying to give the ‘hard core’ fans a product they’ve probably wanted for a long while.

Whether we ever see the DVD being released on it’s own is unknown, they might think that if anyone wants it (or Steven Wilsons remix) they they’d have purchased the set. I was bought ‘War Child’ (been meaning to do a review of it) and one thing that really impressed me was the booklet and the amount of work that has obviously gone into it to make it a very impressive set.

If they all come up to that standard then i really do think they are worth purchasing. And the book-style format is a real winner in my eyes.
