David Bowie – RIP

11 Jan

Have just heard that David Bowie has passed away after his 18 month battle against cancer.

Although none of his albums were released in quad, i felt that the passing of one of rock’s greatest icons could not go unnoticed here.

A sad day indeed, his early albums are, to me, classics, including some of his earlier material on Decca/Deram.

The ‘D’ Word

5 Jan

As many here know, i have shied away from using the ‘D’ word when describing ‘Phoenix’ decodes, mainly because i’ve felt it was something that those who like to knock me could use against me. But after listening to a ‘Phoenix’ decode and a CD-4 decode of the same album i have been thinking it’s about time i stopped being so stupid and proudly state that ‘Phoenix’ is at least the equal of CD-4, and actually superior in many respects.

So, to put it another way, ‘Phoenix’ is as Discrete as the matrix used in CD-4, if not better.

Isaac Hayes – Tough Guys

4 Jan

The WordPress site is experiencing difficulties in uploading images at the moment

While tracking this down i came across a sealed copy, which this is from. In my view this does play better than a normal soundtrack album, the tracks being fewer and longer, basically a 90% Isaac Hayes instrumental album.
