This didn’t work for me, the main problem being the lead vocals going straight through me like a knife through butter. It’s the style and tone of his voice, plus he’s rather loud in the mix compared to everything else. I tried to cope by turning the volume down and there were several tracks I quite liked, but by the end I’d had enough.

Ironically there’s a good quad mix here which uses all the channels in a way that is completely suited to the music, and as usual Phoenix has brought them all out well.

One thing i will say is the stereo version is noticeably different, for instance the first track comes over more comical and at times i’m wondering if the quad version isn’t a set of completely different takes.
