Beaver & Krause - In A Wild Sanctuary DS500c front

I’ve had this sitting around for so long… it’s good to finally get it out there. Previously unlisted as being a quad release, this may not be everyone’s ‘cup-of-tea’ but it’s an interesting mixture of experimental ideas (at least for the early 1970’s). So give it a try…

I enjoyed most of this. The Also Sprach Zarathustra opening aka 2001 fell flat for me, and the second to last track is rather odd. But the rest of it I liked and is a good listen. The quad mix is pretty good for EV-4 too, it’s probably about as active as you can achieve with that matrix. As an unmarkd quad release this is definitely worthy of being DS500.

Excellent choice OD ! I also have this album and never knew there was a quad mix (unlike Gandharva where they teased us with the sleeve notes).

Huh, I have that record and never knew it was quad. Did they just not list it on the cover?

Also, as an aside, Bernie Krause did an amazing CD/book of just environmental recordings.. Stellar but not in quad.

It was encoded in EV-4 but as Warner didn’t officially back the system it wasn’t actively marked as being quad.

Huge congratulations for #500, O.D! And a fascinating choice. I remember checking this album out of my local library when I was a kid. This ties in with your recent Switched-On Bach re-do, because these guys were among the first owners of a Moog Synthesizer, and in fact introduced it to George Harrison and George Martin. Since it was unmarked, I love the idea that NOBODY has heard this in quad since it was finished in the recording studio. What a time warp.

Ah, a perfect choice for #500. 🙂 That’s interesting about THX and these guys too. I can’t say I’m too surprised since these two were ahead of the curve. I appreciate your efforts OD and congratulations on this milestone! You have one of THE best blogs on the net and I’m grateful to be here. Cheers!

Not everyones cup of tea + Freebie = David heaven. How did OD know it was my birthday!?

Happy Birthday, let us know what you think of it.

Oh, and yes, it is said that THX stole idea of their THX sound from the guys.
