Now this is how I think of the BB King sound, much better than “Best Of” for me. Lovely vocals, guitar, string bass etc. and the entire thing sounds so live and fresh. What a great mix despite being so simple, everything is so clear. I suspect this was recorded in a very low number of takes using quite simple equipment. What a delight to hear the great man like this, brought out so well by Sphinx.

Only yesterday I mentioned surprises. This is one of those times. Not very familiar with B.B.’s many recordings, but this must certainly be among his finest. I can best describe the mix as “alive”. No doubt the Phoenix decode allows it to shine through as it does. Love this!

PS…I meant to say “Sphinx”. It’s been a long day.

Joe Walsh, Jesse Ed Davis and Taj Mahal! That’s some line-up.
