Seals & Crofts – I’ll Play For You

28 Jul

Seals & Crofts - I'll Play For You CB023 frontFreebie with LINK

‘I’ll Play For You’ was Seals & Crofts seventh studio album. The title track and ‘Castles in the Sand’ as I recall got radio play upon original release. I very much enjoy the mandolin picking in ‘Freaks Fret’. Plus ‘Golden Rainbow’ and the story about ‘Wayland the Rabbit’ satisfied my listening pleasure. Upon original release this was offered in three quadraphonic formats. Q4 reel, CD-4 record and Q8 tape. This transfer was made from a Q8 tape provided by lupineassassin. Enjoy CB

Jefferson Airplane – The Worst Of

Jefferson Airplane - The Worst of Jefferson Airplane CB022 frontLink

Album info

I’m sure that RCA had a difficult time understanding the title of this first compilation album from the Airplane. Can’t you see the bean counters sitting round scratching their little pointed heads saying ‘worst of ?’. This Stereotape reel proved most difficult to transfer due to problems with the synthetic binder used back in the early 70’s. You will notice an undesirable artifact here and there but after all it is free so smile. Thank you rockyofpittsburgh for this Q4 tape and thank you OD for posting this to your blog. Enjoy  CB

The Eric Burdon Band – Sun Secrets

12 Jul

The Eric Burdon Basnd - Sun Secrets CB021 frontLink

Burdon did not want this material out. The tapes of these sessions were signed to Capitol and released without his permission and referred to as “rehearsal tapes” by the singer. Capitol, in their butcher mentality, released two different versions of this disc. A full-length commercial LP, and a ‘Radio Programming Aid’ which has edits of everything except for the 13-minute Burdon co-written ‘Letter From the Country Farm.’ Further research lead to an interesting interview of Eric where he relates telling John Lennon about a certain Jamaican girlfriend of his. Where upon John gave Eric the dubious nickname of Eggman. So now you know the Walrus was Paul and the Eggman was Eric. The original quadraphonic release was only available on a Q8 cartridge. This was sourced from a Canadian Q8 provided by fellow member rockyofpittsburgh and we thank him very much. We also thank you OD for posting this here on DSQA-II. Enjoy CB

Four Century’s – Not Out

5 Jul

As the blog reaches the end of another century of releases i yet again find myself  looking both backwards and forwards of what has, for me at least, become a full-time job

I hope the range of music released has kept people ‘on their toes’ and it hasn’t become stale or predictable. The next century will hopefully follow in a similar vein, which will, fingers crossed, include the occasional previously unmarked, unlisted or hard to get quad release.

I was recently asked why the blog went ‘hidden’ after being quite successful as a publicly visible site, and whether I’d ever return it to being publicly open. The reasons were many and personal, but as they say, time heals, and after a few unrelated things happening over the last few weeks, i began to consider opening it up again for a test period as an open blog.

So what does this mean to you members, what will change and when will it happen?

Most of the changes are small tweaks so things should continue as normal. You’ll still need to be members to be able to make comments, etc. And on that point, going public will mean certain individuals I’ve had to remove in the past will be able to access it, but hopefully they shouldn’t be able to disrupt things, but if they do then it’s back behind the cloak of invisibility.

As to when, i thought it should go ‘public’ on it’s 400th anniversary, seems as good a time as any. Oh, and talking about the 400th release, i think it’s something rather special, you’ll certainly not find it anywhere else. I hope you all enjoy it.

Keeping on the subject of specials, there are at least a couple of extra releases ‘planned’.  First up will be a two disc demonstration set showcasing all the /II decoding process’ to date. Disc one will include the decoded tracks, sourced from the back catalog and future releases, while disc two will contain the original stereo versions so that those with any hardware or software decoders, can play them for comparison. Of course, this will also allow people to experiment themselves with whatever they may have, it would be of great interest to get people’s feedback.

Another is a set of CD’s, but that project is still in its early stages, so I’ll leave it there for now. So, lookout for a new drop down menu called “Demonstration Disc’s” where all of these special releases will be announced, sometime in the near future.

Another addition, which I’m sure will please many, will be a number of the freebie releases will be available for anyone to download, the method will be exactly the same as is now in place for Captain Beyond’s releases.

Of course any blog is only as good as its members, and there have been those that have, behind the scenes, helped to make what the blog is today by sending transfers for release, information, etc. So I’d like to say publicly a big thank you to (in no particular order): Owen Smith, Captain Beyond, Lupine Assassin, sacdtodvda,  a nony mouse, kguinn, Q!,  rockyofpittsburgh, and everyone else who has helped, in their own way, in enabling this blog to continue.

And with that I’d best get on with the next round of releases…….

This was Joni’s 7th studio album. It was nominated for the best female pop vocal performance Grammy at the 19th awards ceremony. Graham Nash, David Crosby, James Taylor, Jeff Baxter and many others contributed to the album you hear here.
