This is a great album. I’d never heard any Pharoah Sanders until this, and downloaded it on the basis of a sampling on Spotify. It sounds great – like you are sat right inside the mix with nicely spacialised instrument placement. Since listening to more of the Quad back catalogue, it’s clear that Impulse were one of the defining labels of the 70’s – moreso than Blue Note in my opinion (their stuff was just more accessible). Very nice and highly recommended – if you like this particular end of the jazz spectrum.

I can hear that there is some fantastic playing, great musicianship. Also there is good use of quad with instruments in various speakers. I’m just glad that there are other listeners that like it, because this is wasted on me. More jazz I don’t like I’m afraid.
