The Mystic Moods Orchestra – Highway One

15 Feb

Highway One, though quite impressive as a sound ‘spectacle’, was a quite corny concept album suggesting a mildly raunchy US beach town holiday romance.

Fausto Papetti was a saxophone player/band leader and the undisputed king of corny instrumental remakes in Italy for the 'hits of the day'. He had a celebrated series of bi-yearly albums with sultry naked models. Very collectible vinyl stuff… Not that any of this was multichannel, but it does have some sort of resemblance to these 'mood/exotica' types of records in a nostalgic kind of way (for those of us who lived through the 70's and foggily remember).

“Quite corny concept album” gets new lease on life via Quad Blogspot!

Hey, I'll take a listen, sometimes certain records are so utterly wonky that they can now feel cool in a kitsch kind a way. Have you ever heard of Fausto Papetti?

    Thanks OD.

Well, thanks for the offer, October is a long way off and i'm now at the other end of the country, but we'll have to see what transpires nearer the time

How about “a pint”? I am coming your way Oct 20-27. My nephew just got accepted to London School of Econ and is moving from Pittburgh to London, and I am going to help him move. I'll take you and the Ms. out for a pint at your local.

    Now there's a frightening thought… George Formby in Quad…….

I need more time with this and I've only got halfway – but two words I never thought I would associate with quad recordings are George and Formby.

This is my Sunday morning listen and I can't wait!
