This has been sat in my listening backlog for about two years, I pulled it out due the discussions in the requests page. Boy has a hiddem gem been sat waiting for me, this is fantastic! I’d call it rock but it’s so much more than that, it’s a complex sound with electric guitars, sax, multiple voices, strings, and great piano.

The quad mix is moderately adventurous, various instruments and voices pop up in the rears. It’s not too gimmicky though, it feels in keeping with the music. SQ*Final might be an old process now but it holds up quite well here, it’s interesting to go back to where the blog started technically (at least where it started for me, I didn’t hear anything prior to the “Final” series).

I love the band but the material is not their best Some pleasant surround sound moments ( vocals in Golden Age and Marionette) but Ian Hunter's vocals sometimes lost in the mix. I'm more of a Mick Ralphs fan than a Luther Grosvenor fan but he surround made for an interesting listen.
Thanks OD as always for your posts

OD, I know where you're coming from with regard to it being a missed opportunity – more sonic ping pong would have been a real thrill but once again Malcolm and yourself have delivered something which sounds lovely. Pin sharp pianos, honkingly brilliant sax and just when the lush stereo dominant soundstage has you in thrall it pops out to the rears with a little call and response to punctuate a sweet riff or a vocal harmony. All too short – but I've honestly never heard it sound this good. You know what? twice in a row is never a bad thing with this kind of quality material.
